Story of the day Best Friends Forever

 Best Friends Forever

nce upon a time, there lived a king. He wa

s very fond of his royal elephant.

The king provided his elephant with the best food and a large tent to live in. The

elephant was happy and content.

A dog lived in the same kingdom. All day it would roam in the streets in search

of food but rarely got anything to eat. It was weak and its bones used to show

through its skin.

One day the dog was looking for food around the elephant’s tent. When it

peaked in the tent it was amazed to find all the food that the king had arranged

for the elephant. Tempted it got inside the tent when the mahaout was not

looking and began eating the food.

From that day on, the dog began to live with the elephant and feed on the food

that the elephant did not eat. The elephant too did not seem to mind. In fact he

had found a friend in the dog. With time their friendship grew. Together they

began to live happily in the tent.

The dog’s health improved and he began to look very cute.

One day a man came to visit the mahaout. He liked the dog very much and asked

the mahaout if he could have the dog. Since the dog was of no use to him or the

king, the mahaout agreed and the man took the dog with him.

The elephant was very sad to have his friend taken away from him. He began tomiss the dog very much. He stopped eating and fell sick. The best animal doctors

were called to look at the elephant but they failed to make him better. Then one

day the mahaout remembered the dog. He realized he had done a mistake. He

went to the king and told him everything about the dog. At once, a messenger

was asked to announce in the city for anyone who had the dog.

“Anyone who has the dog which lived in the royal elephant’s tent must return

the dog to the king immediately. He shall be paid by the king for it,” the

messenger announced while beating his drum.

The man who had taken the dog did not lose any time in returning the dog. The

elephant gained its health again, when he got his friend back and they spent the

rest of their lives in each other’s company.

Moral: To lose a friend is the greatest of all loses.

Story of The day The Lion and the Mouse

A lion was once sleeping in the jungle when a mouse started running up and down his body just for fun. This disturbed the lion’s sleep, and he woke up quite angry. He was about to eat the mouse when the mouse desperately requested the lion to set him free. “I promise you, I will be of great help to you someday if you save me.” The lion laughed at the mouse’s confidence and let him go.

One day, a few hunters came into the forest and took the lion with them. They tied him up against a tree. The lion was struggling to get out and started to whimper. Soon, the mouse walked past and noticed the lion in trouble. Quickly, he ran and gnawed on the ropes to set the lion free. Both of them sped off into the jungle.

Moral of the Story

A small act of kindness can go a long way.

story of the day Birbal Stories: Birbal Turns Tables

Birbal Stories: Birbal Turns Tables

Let us enjoy reading this one of Birbal Stories of Birbal Turns Tables .

Emperor Akbar was narrating a dream.

The dream began with Akbar and Birbal walking towards each other on a moonless night. It was so dark that they could not see each other and they collided and fell.

"Fortunately for me," said the Emperor. "I fell into a pool of payasam. But guess what Birbal fell into?"

"What, your Majesty?" asked the courtiers.

"A gutter!"

The court resounded with laughter. The emperor was thrilled that for once he had been able to score over Birbal.

But Birbal was unperturbed.

"Your Majesty," he said when the laughter had died down. "Strangely, I too had the same dream. But unlike you I slept on till the end. When you climbed out of that pool of delicious payasam and I, out of that stinking gutter we found that there was no water with which to clean ourselves and so guess what we did?"

"What?" asked the emperor, warily.

"We licked each other clean!"

The emperor became red with embarrassment and resolved never to try to get the better of Birbal again.

Story Of the day Mountain Story

 Mountain Story

– An interesting short story

“A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself, and screams: “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!”
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!”
Curious, he yells: “Who are you?”
He receives the answer: “Who are you?”
And then he screams to the mountain: “I admire you!”
The voice answers: “I admire you!”
Angered at the response, he screams: “Coward!”
He receives the answer: “Coward!”
He looks to his father and asks: “What’s going on?”
The father smiles and says: “My son, pay attention.”
Again the man screams: “You are a champion!”
The voice answers: “You are a champion!”
The boy is surprised but does not understand.
Then the father explains: “People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.
It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart.
If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;
Life will give you back everything you have given to it.”

YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT’S A REFLECTION OF YOU!”

English phonetics and phonology

In this course we are using the symbols now most frequently used in British publishing. It would be too long a task to examine other writers’ symbols in detail, but it is worth considering some of the reasons for the differences. One factor is the complication and expense of using special symbols which create problems in typing and printing; it could, for example, be argued that a is a symbol that is found in practically all typefaces whereas æ is unusual, and that the a symbol should be used for the vowel in ‘cat’ instead of æ. Some writers have concentrated on producing a set of phonemic symbols that need the minimum number of special or non-standard symbols. Others have thought it important that the symbols should be as close as possible to the symbols that a phonetician would choose to give a precise indication of sound quality. To use the same example again, referring to the vowel in ‘cat’, it could be argued that if the vowel is noticeably closer than cardinal vowel no. 4 [a], it is more suitable to use the symbol æ, which is usually used to represent a vowel between open-mid and open. There can be disagreements about the most important characteristics of a sound that a symbol should indicate: one example is the vowels of the words ‘bit’ and ‘beat’. Some writers have claimed that the most important difference between them is that the former is short and the latter long, and transcribed the former with i and the latter with i: (the difference being entirely in the length mark); other writers have said that the length (or quantity) difference is less important than the quality difference, and transcribe the vowel of ‘bit’ with the symbol ɪ and that of ‘beat’ with i. Yet another point of view is that quality and quantity are both important and should both be indicated; this point of view results in a transcription using ɪ for ‘bit’ and i:, a symbol different from ɪ both in shape of symbol (suggesting quality difference) and in length mark (indicating quantity difference), for ‘beat’. This is the approach taken in this course.
